Earn your certificate
Turn your passion for flight into a profession. Earning your Commercial Pilot Certificate allows you to fly for hire — from flight instruction to aerial photography, cargo, tours, and eventually the airlines. Whether you’re building time toward your next aviation goal or launching your career, this is the certificate that opens the door to paid flying opportunities.
Commercial Pilot Eligibility Requirements:
Hold at least a Private Pilot Certificate
Read, speak, write, and understand English.
Be at least 18 years old to receive your commercial pilot certificate.
Commercial Pilot Aeronautical Knowledge Requirements:
Complete an approved Ground School program (in-person or online) and pass the Federal Aviation Administration Commercial Pilot - Airplane knowledge test.
Commercial Pilot Aeronautical Experience Requirements:
250 hours total time (minimum), including:
100 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC)
50 hours of cross-country time
20 hours of flight training toward the commercial certificate
10 hours of instrument training
10 hours of training in a complex or technically advanced aircraft (TAA)
A long solo cross-country flight of at least 300 NM with landings at three different airports
Finally, you must pass a practical exam with an FAA Aviation Safety Inspector (ASI) or Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE).
Many students earn their Commercial Certificate while time-building after their Instrument Rating, making it a natural next step in a professional flight training path.
At Myakka Head Aviation, we tailor commercial training to your experience, timeline, and career goals. Whether you’re working toward the airlines, becoming a CFI, or simply ready to get paid to fly — our instructors will guide you every step of the way.
